DOHA: A roadshow showcasing Thailand’s centuries-old national sport to martial arts enthusiasts in Qatar will be held on August 20 at Grand Hyatt Doha.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Royal Thai Embassy in Qatar are organising ‘Muay Thai Roadshow in Qatar’ to promote awareness among citizens and residents about the Thai cultural sport which has become popular in other parts of the world.
The roadshow is being organised in collaboration with Evolve and the Grand Hyatt Doha.
Known as ‘the art of eight limbs,’ Muay Thai is a combat sport in which fighters make use of their fists, elbows, knees and shins.
The free event will provide those who have passion with Muay Thai the chance to learn from and get trained by professional boxers and trainers from Thailand.
Nine top Muay Thai fighters and trainers will fly to Doha to demonstrate the ancient sport to over 150 attendees at the event.
The programme includes demonstration of Wai Kru Muay Thai ceremony, a unique ritual for Thai boxers to show gratitude to their masters for their patience in training them.
The event also comprises a workshop on major techniques and Muay Thai demonstration between Thai and local boxers.
Thai Ambassador Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum will address the one-of-a-kind event which will take place from 1.30pm to 5pm at Al Sillia Ballroom.
