The Ministry of Economy and Trade launched an electronic service for intellectual property rights (IPR) filing and rights preservation designated to the public and intellectual property agents through the Ministry's website.
A statement issued by the Ministry yesterday stated that the launch of this service and other relevant services came as part of the Ministry's keenness to improve and develop its services to the Business Services System in Qatar and facilitate the delivery of services through the adoption of global best practices in the field of intellectual property.
The new step also aims to provide a high quality integrated electronic system for authors and holders of neighbouring rights in order to protect literary and artistic works in accordance with the applicable laws, agreements and international treaties.
According to new e-filing system, the submission of applications and examination are conducted electronically to ensure that the applications are completed at the scheduled time to get to the final decision of IPR registration.
The new online registration system includes registration of the author’s copyrights. The ministry listed a number of written properties which are protected by the intellectual property rights such books, handbooks and other writings, in addition to oral copies like lectures and speeches.
