Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will organise sporting activities for staff and their families to mark the National Sport Day.
Led by an organising committee from HMC’s Public Relations team, these activities will be supported by a group of volunteers from across HMC to ensure the safety and comfort of participants and attendees.
The activities aims at raising awareness on the importance of sport in building a healthy and disease-free community — one of the key objectives of the human development pillar of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 and also a key element of HMC’s corporate social responsibility programme.
Ali Abdulla Al Khater, Chief Communications Officer at HMC, said: “National Sport Day is an important event for the country but it is particularly important for HMC as the leading provider of healthcare services in Qatar.
HMC is enthusiastically embracing this special day by organising a number of activities aimed at promoting sport and educating the general public on ways to reduce health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle, such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and even some cancers.”
“At HMC, National Sport Day is also viewed as an opportunity to bring our employees closer together, encourage some sporting principles such as team building, inclusion and unity, fitness and health. Most importantly, the day provides an opportunity to nurture a sense of togetherness as part of our cultural values in Qatar and the GCC region,” he added.
He also invited the public to join HMC’s National Sport Day events and to take part in the range of planned activities, which will include a walkathon as well as cycling, football and basketball tournaments.
Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a number of health checks, including blood sugar levels, blood pressure and body mass index checks. Dedicated health check areas staffed by medical professionals will be set up across many HMC hospitals and facilities.
