Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and the Hague Institute for Global Justice signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in knowledge exchange, provide opportunities for students and expand joint research programmes.
The MoU was signed by HBKU President Dr Ahmad M Hasnah and Head of Research at the Hague Institute for Global Justice Dr David Connolly.
The MoU aims at developing a framework for the parties to establish international partnerships; in order to cooperate in the implementation of academic programmes, research activities and professional development across a range of areas, including: conflict resolution, the rule of law, and global governance.
It also allows cooperation in some specific areas such as adaptation to climate change, human security, the consolidation of peace and international law in addition to advancing training in research and communications.
"In HBKU, we appreciate the importance of cooperation with international partners, to help supporting and inspiring the Qatari society in order to discover innovative solutions to regional and global challenges," said Dr Hasnah.
"Our cooperation with the Hague Institute for Global Justice will contribute to exploring the various opportunities in the field of education, by using the numerous researches conducted by the Institute's experts in the field of policies," he added.
HBKU President explained that the MoU will enable both organisations to work together in the educational and research fields. Students and faculty of HBKU will as well benefit from the experiences of the Hague Institute in the field of international law and human rights. Under the MoU, each side is to name two members to form a committee for developing a clear, long-term plan, for the implementation of joint activities.
