Doha: The final stage of the conversion of the Civil Defence Roundabout into a signal-controlled intersection has begun and it will open to traffic by the end of September as scheduled, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced.
Reconstruction works comprise a three-to-four lane expansion of the intersecting routes, including Al Istiqlal Street and Mohammed Bin Thani Street, and installing related utilities and power, sewerage and drainage lines.
To increase road capacity, the Medical City Intersection has been upgraded by widening the left-bound route to three lanes for those heading to Hamad Medical City via the Civil Defence Intersection.
A third lane has been added to the left-bound route for motorists coming from the Sports Roundabout towards the Television Roundabout.
The reconfigurations come as part of the Development of Intersections and Roundabouts Project in several areas in Greater Doha to enhance traffic and reduce congestion in major areas
