Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara participated in the 17th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2016 which opened at the National Theater of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Katara’s Director of the Research and Studies Department, Dr Nadia Al Madahka and contemporary Qatari artist Mohamed Al Ateeq represented Katara at the internationally-renowned art event.

Katara’s contribution to the Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2016 focused on the contemporary and spanned over a two-day seminar themed Art and the City which took place on December 2 and 3. Katara also displayed creative works at this art platform.

The art event powered by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy eyes the continuity, change and co-existence of modernity and tradition in the arts of Asian countries.

The biennale attracted artists and contributions from countries across the world including Qatar, Nepal, Iran, China, Thailand, Korea, Pakistan, Egypt, Japan Chile, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Romania, Turkey, Fiji, Italy, Saudi Arabia, among others.

The Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2016, confronted with the emerging realities, is adjusting its strategies to the global preference for new media, while working within traditions where artistic expressions are seen to reflect the interconnectedness of art, community and environment.
