The Ministry is looking into the possibility of providing 'productive families' and owners of small projects with spaces and parking areas at public parks.
Doha: The Central Municipal Council (CMC) yesterday presented a recommendation to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to look into the possibility of providing 'productive families' and owners of small projects with spaces and parking areas at public parks run by the Ministry.
'Productive families' should be provided with mobile stalls or hoardings to promote and sell their products in public areas, said the Council in its recommendations.
The Council has also recommended that the Ministry 'beautify' garbage bins and containers and that multi-storey buildings must be instructed to keep garbage bins and containers in a special room within the building instead of using part of sidewalks or parking spaces.
The Service and Facilities Committee of the Council emphasised that productive families should have fixed outlets and stalls in the public parks and should be provided with licences.
Nasser bin Ibrahim Al Mohannadi, member of the Council and representative of Constituency Number 25, said that productive families and owners of mini-enterprises need to promote and market their products. This requires allowing them to use billboards to display their products in public gathering places.
Representatives of Social Development Center – Nama - who attended the committee’s meeting, emphasised that the centre has strategy 2016-2020 which aims to build self-reliance and stable families contributing to the social development of the country. The centre encourages youth, and empowers them by providing them with services to promote their small projects and develop their institutional capacities.
Owners of mini-projects are not from needy families, and are entrepreneurs competing in the markets and the society’s attitudes towards these families has changed. The Nama centre assesses the project and then provides with the required support and the recommendation will be considered in cooperation with government partners, said a representative of Nama.
Garbage bins and containers must be covered or surrounded with beautiful objects, specially those located in major institutions like hospitals, service centres, commercial complexes and other public areas in order to end visual pollution, said Al Mohanndi.
The vision of the Public Cleaning Project is to provide with high quality services and introduce latest programmes to ensure safety and maintain a healthy environment, said Mohammed Faraj Al Kubaisi, Assistant Director of the Department of Cleaning Project.
The Department has started to implement a number of programmes to improve the quality of services, including a pilot project of underground containers which is environment-friendly and prevents bad smells, said Al Kubaisi.
The pilot project will be implemented in places like commercial streets, multi-stereo buildings, towers, commercial centrs and other highly populated areas. The system includes easy lifting, discharging and closing system which does not take more than 50 seconds, Al Khubaisi highlighted.
Al Kubaisi explained that putting revetments around the garbage collection points is important for security and projection of environment. Al Kubaisi said that the ministerial decision No 5/1981 has clearly indicated that buildings must have assembly rooms for garbage away from the streets and parking areas.
