The Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) held on December 4 a lecture and workshop on “Enriching our Science Courses with Innovations in Muslim Civilisation”, delivered by Prof Salim Al Hassani, Emeritus Professor at Manchester University and President of the Foundation for Sciences, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC), United Kingdom.
The event was attended by CAS Dean Dr Rashid Al Kuwari, CAS associate deans for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Hala Sultan Al Essa and for Academic Affairs Dr Hassan Abdel Aziz, and CHSS Director Dr Kaltham Al Ghanim, as well as QU faculty and students, and guests from Qatar Museums and other institutions.
The workshop, which was co-chaired by CAS Professor of Physics and Physics Society President Prof Ilham Al Qaradawi, aimed to explore new methodologies to raise students’ awareness of their Muslim scientific heritage and other eastern civilisations.
Discussions focused on ways to introduce the Muslim scientific heritage into the academic curriculum, and specifically into courses such as physics, chemistry, maths as well as social studies.
