Hong Kong: Mainland Chinese stocks rallied Wednesday as investors returned from a long holiday break to news that officials plan a new economic zone near Beijing, boosting property and construction firms.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.48 percent, or 47.80 points, to 3,270.31. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, rose 1.85 percent, or 36.73 points, to close at 2,023.20.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index added 0.57 percent, or 139.32 points, to end at 24,400.80.
