W Doha Hotel & Residences supported Qatar’s National Environment Day by collaborating with Doha College to educate students on the significance of sustainable living. Staff from W Doha visited the school to engage students in a number of green practices by raising awareness of the importance of recycling for the future of the planet.
Throughout the ‘green’ immersion, the students were given a talk about ways in which the hotel is environmentally responsible, by highlighting initiatives such as ‘Make a Green Choice’ and the internal recycling programme. The students were also asked to participate in a number of creative activities such as reusing recycled objects to design fun items ranging from paper caterpillars to spiders. For a special touch, the Year 4 children were treated with W Café cupcakes.
Recently, W Doha was honoured as the first hotel in Qatar to be awarded with the prestigious international environment certificate, ‘Green Key’.
Christine Walker, Vice Principal Head of Primary at Doha College commented: “Egg boxes, paint, glitter and glue with a great message to reduce, reuse and recycle and save our planet.  Our children loved having the W Doha team join us for Qatar’s environmental day.  The presentation helped the children to understand why we need to look after our planet’s resources and the games were great fun.”
General Manager of W Doha, Safak Guvenc commented: “We are honoured to be working on initiatives that drive awareness around green issues and that are aligned with Qatar’s 2030 national vision by working with the local community. Together we are on the right direction towards environmental sustainability within not only the school, the hotel and the local community, but on a global scale.”  The Peninsula
