H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Cultural Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar's candidate for the Director-General post at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), met yesterday with Chadian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Artisans, Youssouf Abassalah. The meeting reviewed cultural ties and their role in promoting relations between nations as a main pillar of Unesco functions.
The Chadian Minister reiterated his country's support for the Qatari candidate, which reflects the depth of cultural ties between the two countries. He also expressed his aspiration towards future cooperation between his ministry and Unesco.
In a related development,    H E Dr Al Kawari met Aissata Ba Sidibe, Unicef deputy representative in Chad and discussed the importance of education in rural and urban areas.
Ba Sidibe praised Qatar's efforts through the Educate A Child programme, which is executed in cooperation with Unicef and the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Chad, noting that the programme is a successful model for cooperation among organisations in addressing the needs of the less developed countries. She also hailed the role of Qatar Foundation in taking care of childhood and education.
H E Dr Al Kawari stressed the importance of cooperation among these international organisations and the role of Unesco in the future to enhance that cooperation.
