DOHA: The Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics is set to launch a set of annual economic surveys 2013. These surveys will cover all large establishments and a sample of small establishments of various economic sectors, including public, mixed, private, both domestic and foreign.
The key objective of these surveys is to provide actual data for the year 2012 on employment in terms of nationality, gender, occupations and wages in addition to the value of production and intermediate inputs of goods and services, assets and thus estimates of value added generated by all economic activities practiced in the national economy.
These activities comprise mining, manufacturing, electricity and water, construction, trade, hotels and restaurants, transport and communications, banks and insurance and business services, social and personal services.
The information will help the Economic Statistics and National Accounts Department in the preparation of 2012 final estimates of the gross domestic product (GDP). This information is considered the source for the compilation of the national accounts system as well as the basic set of economic indicators for all economic activities practiced in Qatar.
Nearly 200 researchers will participate in field work related to data collection. The Ministry has conducted a training sessions for the field team in order to develop their knowledge of the various elements of field work.
