LONDON: Lawmakers opposed to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit plans want to pass a law forcing him to ask for a delay to Britain's exit from the European Union until Jan. 31 2020, a copy of the legislation posted on Twitter by one of its authors said.
The draft bill would require Johnson to ask the EU to delay Brexit if, by Oct. 19, he has not managed to get a new exit deal agreed with the EU, or received the approval of parliament to leave the bloc without an exit agreement.
"The purpose of the Bill is to ensure that the UK does not leave the European Union on the 31 October without an agreement, unless Parliaments consents," lawmaker Hilary Benn said on Twitter.
