Hamad International Airport is going the extra mile with strategic partnerships to provide customers with an airport experience like no other. This was evident when HIA, in partnership with Smiths Detection, installed an innovative screening technology at its security checkpoint that will deliver unprecedented levels of security, customer service and efficiency.
The new ground-breaking technology does not require passengers to remove either liquids or larger electronic items from their bags. The technology also incorporates a shoe screening capability conducted in only a few seconds without the need for passengers to remove their footwear. The new screening lane is a part of HIA’s Smart Security Programme, which aims to deploy advanced screening technological solutions across the wider airport campus and as part of HIA’s airport expansion.
Saeed Yousef Al Sulaiti, Vice-President of Security at HIA, said: “We are proud to have harnessed the power of technology to enhance our operational excellence and passenger experience. We realise the potential of such an efficient security screening technology and look forward to delivering a truly secure and convenient screening process for all.”
HIA has constantly proven to be the airport-of-choice for global travellers. Qatar’s airport is renowned for advancing various technological solutions to improve its operational efficiency. Last year, HIA installed C2 technology, the latest security screening system which allows transferring passengers to move through security checkpoints without removing electronic devices from their bags.
HIA met all the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and kept its doors open during the severity of the pandemic. The airport swiftly implemented innovative technologies to boost its operations. Smart solutions such as Smart Screening Helmets enabled contactless temperature measurement, while HIA’s fully autonomous disinfectant robots have optimised airport operations with their effectiveness in eliminating the majority of infectious microorganisms. The airport has also deployed touchless capabilities at key touchpoints such as self-check-in, self-bag-drop and terminal elevators. In addition, HIA, and the national carrier, Qatar Airways, are part of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Travel Pass trial.
HIA has transformed the airport experience to ensure operational excellence while prioritising passenger and staff health, wellbeing, and security. Underpinned by advanced airport systems, HIA continues to optimise airport operations by introducing safety measures fuelled by smart solutions, strengthening passenger trust and confidence. HIA has earned may accolades, becoming the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to receive a 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating by Skytrax.
