AS coronavirus cases around the world jumped to 617,084 and number of deaths surged to 28,376, health-care workers are struggling tirelessly day and night to save lives of infected people.
In Qatar, a total of 16,582 people have been tested for COVID-19 and 590 people infected with the virus are receiving treatment for the disease and some 45 people have recovered from the pandemic.
As part of measures taken to control the spread of the virus in the community, competent authorities in Qatar have asked citizens and residents to stay at home also asking others with travel history to stay at home quarantine strictly adhering to the conditions set by the Ministry of Public Health for their own safety and others.
Around the world governments are almost taking similar measures to ensure safety of the people enforcing social distancing. However, the State of Qatar is not only advising people to stay at home and engage in social distancing but also strictly enforcing laws in this regard and competent authorities have arrested tens of people who violated the requirements of home quarantine.
In this battle against the spread of COVID-19 and measures taken, the role of doctors, nurses and all healthcare workers should be highly appreciated as they are battling the a pandemic positioning themselves at the forefront of the battle.
At the front lines like heroes, they are working long hours to provide patients with essential medical services to cure their infections.
No doubt this means they are putting themselves in high risk of infections along the high level of stress in their workplaces as they are doing their professional duties with readiness for the possibility of getting infected with the coronavirus.
Authorities concerned in different countries are not disclosing the actual numbers of healthcare staff infected by the virus but giving a glance to the reality in some countries could be enough to know the size of the risks they are exposed to and the sacrifices they are making to preserve lives of others.
In Italy for instance, at least 2,629 healthcare workers have been infected by coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic in February, while China said in early March that some 3,300 healthcare workers were infected and some of them died. Health authorities in Spain said last Tuesday that “out of 40,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, 5,400 are medical professionals” infected while treating patients.
Therefore along with our readers, we offer great regards and salutation to all medical staff in the entire world and in particular the medical staff in the State of Qatar for their outstanding efforts to save lives of the people.
