Qatar has launched pioneering initiatives to host important centers that have a UN role in the field of training and development. The Declaration of Intent signed by Qatar and the United Nations to establish a Doha-based United Nations for Judicial Integrity Center for Research and Training is testament to this fact.

The new center will be part of the United Nations complex pledged by Qatar, which hosts a number of centers and headquarters of international organizations. Doha’s hosting of the UN center reflects the continued broad support by Qatar to the United Nations, based on its firm belief in the principles of international law and international covenants related to the role of law and human right in a fair and equitable trial.

By hosting this UN center, Doha will be a global center for enhancing judicial capabilities and a reference for judicial institutional policies on integrity, through what it will provide to world judges in terms of training, consultations and opportunities to support academic and institutional research projects in the relevant fields.

Meanwhile, the second high-level meeting of the Global Judicial Integrity Network concluded on Wednesday issuing ‘Doha Declaration on Judicial Integrity’ which focuses on enhancing judicial integrity through global partnerships.

The President of the Supreme Judiciary Council and President of the Court of Cassation, H E Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Hassan Al Mohannadi, said the declaration reflects the keenness of the Qatari leadership on making the country an effective member of the international community, and on deepening and strengthening relations and establishing peace for humanity.

H E Al Mohannadi praised the great success achieved by the second high-level meeting of the Global Judicial Integrity Network with the participation of more than 120 countries and nearly 50 heads of judicial bodies and Supreme Courts, in partnership with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. The large participation clearly indicates the appreciation and confidence that Qatar enjoys internationally.

The Representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Project Director of the Global Network for Judicial Integrity, Marco Acehera, praised the Supreme Judiciary Council for hosting the second high-level meeting of the Global Judicial Integrity Network and the support provided by the State of Qatar to the Network.

He added that the judicial integrity is a complex issue that needs combined efforts and capabilities. “These efforts should be multiplied through real partnerships, and the second meeting in Doha presented an appropriate opportunity to establish real partnerships in this regard.”
