Safeguarding the rights

Qatar since the imposition of unjust blockade against it is making sincere efforts employing all available resources and international channels to safeguard rights of its citizens being violated by the siege countries.

The same spirit was behind Qatar’s decision of taking the UAE to International Court of Justice (ICJ) last month for violating International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD).  ICJ has also given its verdict in favour of Qatar which is a triumph of truth and justice.

Now the State of Qatar has also informed the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General of the ICJ decision in favor of Qatar to take provisional measures against the UAE.

Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani informed the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President for this month Olof Skoog through a message about the verdict.

The ambassador also referenced the State of Qatar’s previous messages that highlighted the implications of the blockade and the illegal and discriminatory measures taken against the State of Qatar since June 5, 2017.

The message also highlighted that the ICJ issued a binding ruling to accept Qatar’s request of taking provisional measures against the UAE after the latter took discriminatory measures against Qatari citizens in violation of CERD.

The message highlighted that the decision of the ICJ can be considered a recognition by the most prominent international judicial body of Qatar’s strong legal case in the crisis fabricated against it, and a vindication of the Qatari citizens affected by the discriminatory and illegal measures enforced against them by the unjust blockade.

Meanwhile the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has renewed its call to Qatari people who want to go to the UAE in order to rejoin their families, complete their education, obtain their records, or access their property, or those who want to resort to UAE courts to reach out to the committee.

The committee also called on them to document any obstacles they face that prevent them from accessing their rights in accordance with the verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The Committee stressed that it will continue to monitor closely any attempt to put obstacles by the UAE authorities in front of the Qatari citizens who have been supported by international justice, noting that the decision of the International Court of Justice was a first step on the road to redress all victims affected by the rest of the embargo, their rights by force of law.
