The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ in recent days has delivered a number of development projects in different parts of the country. The Authority has not only delivered projects within stipulated timeframes but also the accomplished assignments reflect highest standards of qualitative perfection.

No doubt ‘Qatar deserves the best’ says the slogan of Ashghal. Translating the slogan into reality, the Public Works Authority is delivering what can be dubbed as the best to the country making residents’ lives safe and comfortable.

Now under School Zone Safety Programme, Ashghal has completed works to improve roads surrounding 375 schools, covering around 75% of the total number of schools, while work is underway to complete the implementation of safety schemes around 65 schools.

The programme was implemented to enhance traffic safety and reduce traffic congestion in these areas, to separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic, improve temporary unpaved roads and ensure the safety of students and parents on arrival or departure from school.

Priority was given to 504 schools across Qatar, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the National Committee for Traffic Safety, based on a study conducted by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to select school areas in need of development. In addition to finalising designs for the surrounding roads of 23 schools, which are expected to get started as soon their approvals are obtained from concerned entities in the country, while the designs of the surrounding road schemes are in progress for another 40 schools. In total, 503 out of 504 schools, or 99.8% of the schools, are listed in different treatment stages.

At the same time, Ashghal is fast completing the B-Ring Road Development project. It aims to develop the B-Ring Road and Al Khaleej Street, with a total length of 10km, and enhance their capacity by increasing the number of lanes on each of them from two to three lanes in each direction.

The project also includes providing several elements that will increase the traffic safety in the area, such as providing two pedestrian bridges with elevators on Al Khaleej Street, as well as cycle and pedestrian lanes, road signs and road markings, and new street lighting.

Due to its tireless efforts to deliver quality projects, Ashghal is continuously being recognized in the region and beyond. Recently, Ashghal’s Main Trunk Sewer (MTS) Project in Doha South achieved the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Award Scheme (CEEQUAL) ‘Good Rating’ and became the first and only project in the region to obtain the CEEQUAL Design and Build Award.

Last month, Ashghal, represented by the Information Systems Department and the Engineering Services Department, won the GIS Excellence Award for the use of GIS technology in Moazanah Program on the sidelines of the Esri Global User Conference 2019 held in San Diego.
