Defending the defenceless

From its diplomatic endeavours to generous aid contri-butions, Qatar’s role in supporting Palestinian cause has always been exemplary. As Palestinian people are passing through huge sufferings, Qatar has again warned of the continued deterioration of the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip and the continuing Israeli aggression against the defenceless Palestinian people.

Qatar has demanded basic national rights of Palestinian people and the lifting of the unjust siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip has further deteriorated in recent past causing concern in the world community. The European Union in a statement has also criticized Israeli occupation’s expanding settlement policy, after the occupation’s government agreed to build 1,000 new settlements in occupied Al Quds.

The EU has also said in a statement: “Within the past two weeks the Israeli authorities have advanced plans and issued tenders for over 2,000 settlement units in the West Bank including East Jerusalem. If implemented, these plans would further jeopardize the prospect of a contiguous and viable future Palestinian state.

“The EU is strongly opposed to Israel’s settlement policy which  is  illegal  under  international  law  and  an  obstacle  to   peace,” the statement added. In  a  statement  released  on  Thursday, Qatar’s  Ministry  of  Foreign Affairs called on the international community to put an end to  this humanitarian disaster, warning of the silence of the international community and the lack of action towards the possibility of the situation explosion in Gaza.

The statement reiterated Qatar’s firm position on the historic rights of the Palestinian people in an independent state with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital and  the  right  of  the  refugees  to  return to their areas, stressing that ignoring these constants is a violation of the international law. The statement also stressed the Qatari diplomacy will spare no effort in working  to  lift  the  unjust  siege  imposed  on  Gaza.

The  primary  goal of the Qatari efforts is to lift the  injustice  on  the  Palestinian  people and to support them, which requires contacts and meetings with all parties, the statement said, pointing that the State of Qatar has nothing to hide in this
regard, especially when humanitarian mediation is taking place.

Meanwhile a top official of the UN  has called on Israel to urgently allow the delivery of humanitarian supplies into Gaza, and called on all parties not hold aid supplies “hostage to political and security developments”.

Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations political chief, revealed the woeful humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave to the organisation’s security council this week, warning fuel and medical supplies were running “dangerously” low.  She said funding for the UN’s emergency fuel support programme in Gaza had run out, a situation which could see hundreds of key facilities, including hospitals and water plants, close.

“The humanitarian situation in Gaza had also deteriorated further, due in part to additional restrictions that Israel imposed on the movement of goods,” DiCarlo said.
