Qatar has always played crucial role in promoting peace, security and stability around the world, the Middle East in particular. This was evident when the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, with the latter thanking and expressing gratitude to H H the Amir for Qatar’s endeavours and diplomacy that contributed to ending the Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people, reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as its permanent support for the Palestinian people.
Palestinians are facing huge difficulties due to the continued aggression of the Israeli occupation, as well as punitive measures imposed on the Gaza Strip. Qatar considers the Palestinian issue its main cause and stands firmly with Palestine and is acting responsibly to ensure Al Quds and Al Aqsa Mosque return to the Arab and Islamic world and establish an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4 of 1967 with East Al Quds as its capital.
Speaker of the Shura Council, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, in a speech via videoconfernce to the 142nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, said that among the most serious threats to security and peace in the Middle East region is Israel’s oppressive and brutal practices against the Palestinian citizens and its continued illegal occupation of their land, which calls for a firm stance towards them from the international community and parliamentarians in particular.
The Shura Council, in its regular weekly meeting, saluted the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip and in all the occupied Palestinian territories and their tenacious defence of the sanctity of the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque.
The Palestinians will find all forms of support from Qatar and the humanitarian relief programme stem from a moral duty to support the Palestinian cause. In this regard, Qatar Red Crescent Society launched a QR60m fundraising campaign for Palestine.
The campaign seeks to help the Palestinians by providing them with shelter, food, and medical supplies. QRCS will provide medications and medical consumables costing $300,000 and another $372,000 worth of relief and food items. These supplies will be distributed to around 60,000 people from the most affected families. The efforts to maintain calm and peace in Gaza confirm that Qatar, through its wise diplomatic approach, is keen to solve differences through dialogue.
