The bilateral relations between Qatar and the Republic of Tunisia strengthened further with the arrival of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in capital Tunis yesterday. H H the Amir’s visit to Tunisia reflects the strength of the relationship and the size of cooperation and coordination between the two countries.
This is H H the Amir’s first visit after the election of Tunisian President, H E Kais Saied and assuming his duties as head of state. Tunisia is the second leg of H H the Amir’s Arab tour after a successful and fruitful visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The tour also includes People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. Qatar’s relations with Tunisia have been steadily growing over the years. The two countries are bound with strong ties of cooperation in many fields. Qatar is all praise for the democratic model in Tunisia and has always supported Tunisian people. Qatar ranks as the first Arab and the second country in the world in terms of direct investments in Tunisia, with more than $3bn invested in telecommunication, banking and tourism sectors, among others.
Ambassador of Qatar to Tunisian Republic, H E Saad bin Nasser Al Humaidi, said Qatar considers Tunisia an important Arab partner, stressing that H H the Amir’s visit confirms this distinction in the relationship between the two countries and the two leaderships. The volume of trade exchanges between Qatar and Tunisia recorded an impressive growth of 34.52 percent in 2018, compared to the same period in 2017, that exceed QR76.3m.
On Sunday, H H the Amir’s visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan opened a new page of ties between the two countries. H H the Amir and H M King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein held official talks and expressed satisfaction with the growth of bilateral ties, and stressed their commitment to advancing it further in all fields. The two sides stressed the importance of activating the Qatar-Jordanian Supreme Joint Committee and enhancing cooperation in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and higher education. H H the Amir directed the creation of 10,000 job opportunities in Qatar for Jordanian nationals, in addition to the 10,000 job opportunities that were announced in August 2018, the opening of a center in Jordan to facilitate the process, and the support of the Jordanian military retirement fund with $30m.
The University of Jordan will provide a number of academic courses under Lusail University’s umbrella, in addition to the exchange of expertise and training that will be carried as part of the preparations for hosting the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar
