Qatar has established an education system that complies with the highest standards of international educational systems. And school is an important element of country’s economy. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education recently gave green signal to some schools to run a two-shift system from the new academic year (2019-20), starting from April this year.
The Ministry’s preparations for the new season reflects the commitment of the country’s leadership to education, as it is an important factor in realising Qatar National Vision 2030 goals. The decision by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to allow schools to operate two shifts will create new job opportunities in country’s education sector. Experts believe that new system will provide a huge relief to students and will also solve the problem of shortage of seats for new students.
Qatar has always been investing in education which promotes its human and knowledge capital. The State, through many initiatives, is also focusing on preserving national identity by promoting values of loyalty and belonging and planting them in the youth.
The Ministry also recently approved the requests of 28 private schools and kindergartens to increase their tuition fees from three to 10 percent for the academic year 2019-20. “A total of 126 private schools and kindergartens, out of 287 private schools and kindergartens operating in the country, applied seeking approval to increase the fees,” said Hamad Al Ghali, Director of Private Schools Licensing Office at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
After getting approval from the Ministry, Olive International School announced opening of registration and admissions from Grade 1 to 8 for evening classes. The Ministry has also announced to open the registration for the students of all grades in private schools and kindergartens for the academic year 2019-20 from March 3, 2019 until October 17, 2019.
Qatar is witnessing rapid economic growth which is attracting high number of skilled expatriates from across the globe. Qatar needs new schools and new initiatives to create additional seats for new students. Realising the growing demand for more schools and attract private sector investment in the education sector, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced plans to build 45 schools in the coming years under public-private partnership. According to the plan, the first phase consisting of eight schools whose plots of land were allocated, are expected to be offered during the summer of 2021. The approved project system will include design, construction, finance, operation, maintenance of buildings and transfer of ownership of schools.
Qatar has become an academic hub due to its international reputation, its political, economic and social stability, richness and cultural diversity. Qatar is moving ahead to build a modern state that encourages education for all.
