Qatar and Oman opened a new chapter in their ever-growing bilateral relations, which has withstood the test of time for the past several decades. Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani led well-wishers to welcome H M Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of the Sultanate of Oman on arrival at the Doha International Airport. The Sultan, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is on a two-day official visit to Qatar.
H M the Sultan choosing Qatar for his second international visit after assuming power on January 11, 2020, reflects the high esteem in which Oman is keeping Qatar and the importance of bilateral relations in all aspects and consensus on regional land international issues.
Later, H H the Amir and H M the Sultan held an official round of talks, which dealt with the deep-rooted relations between the two sisterly countries and ways to realise the ambitions and interests of the two peoples. Both countries signed several agreements yesterday after the talks at the Amiri Diwan yesterday, which deal with military cooperation, avoiding double taxation and evasion of income taxes and capital levies, human and labour resources, cooperation between Qatar Investment Authority and Oman Investment Authority, tourism and hospitality sector and maritime transports and ports.
H H the Amir and H M the Sultan exchanged the highest honours of the two countries reflecting the fraternal relations between Qatar and Oman and the two rulers’ appreciation of each other. H H the Amir presented H M the Sultan with the Sword of the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, the highest national decoration presented to kings, princes and heads of states. H M the Sultan presented H H the Amir with the Civil Order of Oman, First Class, the highest Omani decoration presented to kings and heads of states of countries with distinguished ties with the Sultanate and also presented to very important persons that have H M the Sultan’s utmost appreciation.
Relations between Qatar and Oman have been growing by leaps and bounds for decades. The two countries are bound together with common interests and complementing visions, pursuit of prosperity for their people, spreading a culture of peace, dialogue, cooperation, understanding and stability in the region and the world.
Since the appointment of the first ambassador of Qatar to Oman, by the Amiri Decree No.2 in 1973 followed by the presentation of Oman’s first ambassador to Qatar in the following year, bilateral cooperation was growing steadily with exchange of visits by high-level delegations and rulers. Sharing common goals, visions and aspirations the two countries under their wise leadership, the relations between the two countries will remain strong cemented with friendship and unwavering trust.
