The State of Qatar has been very keen on building strategic relationships and enhancing its cooperation with other countries, whether in the region or the wider world. Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited several countries recently, the latest being Croatia and Italy. In the last few days several heads of states and governments visited Qatar to discuss bilateral relations and signed several cooperation agreements.
During the H H the Amir’s visit, the President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic praised the agreements signed between her country and Qatar. Affirming Qatar as an important partner, the President said H H the Amir’s visit forms a basis for developing excellent bilateral relations. The President said that the presence of the Croatian community acts as a bridge between the two countries, expressing optimism for future cooperation in the fields of energy, industry, defence technology, sports and tourism.
H H the Amir was accorded a warm welcome in Rome, the capital of Italy. Qatar and Italy signed several agreements for cooperation in the field of education, scientific research, youth and sports, healthcare and biomedical research, pharmaceuticals and modern medical equipment. The two sides also signed an agreement on food security and cooperation in agro-food industries.
H H the Amir and the leaders of Croatia and Italy discussed a wide range of issues, especially the Gulf crisis, situation in the Middle East and other international issues. Italian President Sergio Mattarella stressed that the solution to the Gulf crisis will only be achieved through dialogue and diplomatic solution based on mutual respect and without interfering in the internal affairs of countries. This corresponds to the long-standing stance of Qatar.
H H the Amir’s visits to Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the United States and the Untied Nations headquarters affirm Qatar’s openness and its understanding and interest in cooperation with fellow countries.
The visits opened new chapters in Qatar’s foreign relations and boosted its cooperation with those countries in several fields. Qatar has become an important country for the world and an active partner of international community due to its political and economic significance and realistic outlook to solve problems and disputes around the world.
Qatar, with its wise policies and stance on international issues, has carved a niche for itself among the comity of nations. World leaders eagerly wait for the word from Qatar’s leadership and they see Qatar as a model when it comes to managing and solving crises amicably and weathering storms that threaten even the existence and survival of a country. The State of Qatar is fast becoming a rule book for others.
