Qatar and the United Kingdom cemented their relations further.
This was evident when Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, and discussed strategic relations and means of boosting cooperation between the two countries in various fields for their mutual benefit.
In a meeting at the British Prime Minister’s office on 10 Downing Street in London yesterday, H H the Amir and Boris Johnson also discussed several emerging issues in the Middle East, especially the developments in the Gulf.
H H the Amir stressed the strength of the relations between the two countries, in addition to the strong personal relations between His Highness and the Prime Minister, pointing out that this meeting will contribute to strengthening these relations in several areas.
The relations between Qatar and the UK are strong, deep, progressing and continuously growing.
They cover the political, economic, sports, culture, and tourism fields. The visit of H H the Amir comes as part of the wise leadership’s strategy and the keenness to keep strong and robust communication, cooperation and coordination with countries around the world.
Qatar is also an important economic partner to UK where the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is increasing with every passing day. Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) Chief Executive Officer Mansoor Ebrahim Al Mahmoud affirmed QIA’s long-term commitment to the UK through a continuous and diversified investment strategy.
QIA has built a global portfolio of assets within the UK and has successfully established partnerships with several leading British financial institutions. Al Mahmoud said that despite the apparent instability during Brexit, QIA continued its investments in the UK.
In 2017, QIA announced its intention to invest £5bn across the UK, in sectors including infrastructure, technology and energy. British Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Ajay Sharma, said that with Britain leaving the European Union, the UK welcomes Qatar’s long-term confidence.
For many years, the UK and Qatar have established strong diplomatic and economic ties, and the UK looks forward to strengthening these relationships following QIA’s renewed commitment, he added. Qatar and Britain play effective, distinct and coordinated roles in the service of humanity, international security, and peace. The two countries also play roles that seek active mediation to settle disputes and resolve issues in many of the world’s areas of conflict.
Both countries are also meeting points for many international events and conferences. Relations between Qatar and the UK in the field of culture are stronger than ever. The annual Qatar-British Festival has been a catalyst in promoting cultural ties between Qatar and the UK through a plethora of events and activities which celebrate the long-standing relationship between the two friendly countries
