This year will be a momentous year for Qatar, with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first to be hosted in the Middle East and the Arab world culminating in what is shaping to be a year when Qatar’s global position as an international hub for world-class events is further cemented. Qatar will host a wealth of critical events over the next couple of years in business, leisure, hospitality, sports and international affairs.
In February, the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) and Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) signed a partnership agreement, enabling them to continue their promotion of Qatar as a hub for business events and further contribute to strengthening Qatar National Vision 2030.
Since the start of the year, the eyes of the world have been on Qatar as the country showcases its portfolio of events and infrastructure, including iconic stadiums and facilities for the World Cup, world-class events like DIMDEX, Milipol, Cityscape Qatar, IATA and the Qatar Economic Forum whose sessions begin today.
Currently ongoing in Doha is the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit. The opening was attended by the Prime Minister and Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani. The opening included speeches by Minister of Transport H E Jassim bin Saif bin Ahmed Al Sulaiti, CEO of Qatar Airways Group H E Akbar Al Baker, and Director-General of IATA Willie Walsh.
Also, yesterday, the 10th edition of Cityscape Qatar 2022 kicked off at the DECC. It will host a group of the most prominent real estate development companies. Over 60 exhibitors from seven countries, including Qatar, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Cyprus, the UAE, Egypt and Pakistan, are participating in the exhibition.
The Qatar Economic Forum (QEF), in its second edition, will begin its sessions today at The Ritz Carlton Doha. The event launched under the theme “Equalising the Global Recovery” will host several heads of state, over 500 business leaders, and more than 75 keynote speakers who will discuss the latest economic trends, challenges, and post-pandemic recovery in numerous sessions.
The QEF is an immense platform to highlight Qatar’s economic growth strategies, diversification and adaptation under the Qatar National Vision to lead a competitive and knowledge-based economy.
