Qatar University has established itself as a center of excellence in education and research and the impressive pace of growth of the higher education institute of Qatar is winning due recognition from all over the world.  Since its establishment in 1973, Qatar University has become an esteemed seat of knowledge and learning in the Middle East.

Apart from university management’s whole-hearted dedication to make the institute a global beacon of light, the achievements of the university completely reflect Qatar’s leadership’s vision of making development through investing in country’s human resource.

Qatar University (QU) has been ranked 48th in Telecommunication Engineering subject in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018, making a significant leap on its last year’s ranking, where it had been ranked in the range of 51-75 best universities.

For the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018, more than 4000 universities are assessed from 83 different countries and ranked in 54 subjects across five broad areas; natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.

Other QU ranked subjects include Chemical Engineering (151-200), Computer Science & Engineering (201-300), Electrical & Electronic Engineering (201-300), Energy Science & Engineering (201-300), Materials Science & Engineering (201-300), and Chemistry (401-500).

In May this year, Qatar University (QU) had made a huge improvement in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings by advancing its position from 75 in 2017 to 35 in the 2018 rankings.

The THE Emerging Economies University Rankings use the same 13 rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, examining each university’s strengths against all of its core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Qatar University also enjoys the honour of being ranked first in the international outlook indicator in the overall Times Higher Education World University Rankings list (THE-WUR) since 2015 and third among universities in the Arab world in THE Arab World Rankings 2018.

The international outlook indicator considers the proportion of an institution’s international staff, international students, and research papers co-published with at least one author from another country.  In March 2018, Qatar University (QU) was chosen as one of the top 400 universities worldwide in electrical and electronic engineering in Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) World University Ranking by subject.

Qatar University (QU) was ranked 3rd among the best universities in the Arab world and 52nd out of the top 350 institutions from 25 countries in Asia in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2018 released in February this year.

An article published by the Times Higher Education (THE) under the title “Can Qatar’s universities survive the Gulf blockade” in April 2018 had indicated that Qatar University (QU) had produced the highest research volume in Qatar in the Elsevier’s Scopus bibliometric database.
