As the country is ready to welcome a large number of fans from across the globe after few months through its state-of-the-art airports for 2022 FIFA World Cup, Hamad International Airport has once again made the nation proud by winning a prestigious award.
Hamad International Airport (HIA) has been again ranked as the ‘Best Airport in the World’ for the second year in a row by the prestigious SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2022. The airport has also retained its title as the ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for the eighth year in a row.
The rankings were based on voting submitted by air travellers and passenger satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport services and products including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, immigration, and departure. HIA was announced the #1 airport amongst 550 other global airports.
Meanwhile, Air Transport Department of Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), in a recent report, predicted that the number of passengers, including arrivals, departures and transits, at Qatar’s airports during the months of November-December 2022 will be over 7 million.
The number of passenger flights at both Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport are expected to reach about 28,000 scheduled and chartered flights during the FIFA World Cup from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
It predicts that “the total number in November 2022 will be about 3.5 million passengers on the conservative path and 4.1 million on the aggressive path, while it is expected that the number in December 2022 will reach 3.6 million passengers on the conservative path and more than 4.7 million on the aggressive path.”
It is important to mention here that the official airport partner of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 witnessed a promising start of the year – welcoming a total of 7.14 million passengers in the first quarter alone.
HIA also introduced three new passenger destinations to make the total number of destinations served by the airport at 156, while also partnering with more than 36 airline partners.
The airport’s Phase A expansion is well underway, as the capacity is set to increase to over 58 million passengers. HIA’s Phase B expansion will then begin in early 2023 and will boost the capacity to over 60 million passengers.
No doubt the fresh achievement of HIA is another testament to airport’s marvellous services and the most modern facilities it provides to passengers and is continuously striving to set the new standards for safe, comfortable journey through airports.
