Immersive experience

Come this Saturday, there will be two more outdoor destinations for families to explore as National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) will open two very interestingly conceptualised playgrounds for children.

The Cave of Wonders and Adventure Ship Playground opens a very immersive experience for the children who can learn a lot by exploring these outdoor spaces, which aims to provide a total experience with visual, auditory and olfactory features.

With interactive displays, unique designs and an exhaustive collection, NMoQ has already redefined the role of a museum. It has elevated a visitor’s experience by getting them involved through wise use of space, architecture and technology.

This experimental way of story telling can be seen in the two new playgrounds also as it will definitely invoke curiosity in a child about the history of the country and will offer a nice way for parents to guide them through the journey of Qatar. A third playground will be open at NMoQ later which will focus on the oil and gas history of Qatar. “We are committed to ensuring that museums are a place of learning for all generations.

From the natural formation of the land to a time where Qatar was one of the major pearl traders of Asia, the playgrounds – similar to the permanent galleries at the National Museum of Qatar – are immersive and experiential, telling the story of Qatar and its people.” Qatar Museums’ (QM) Chairperson, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, said about the playgrounds.

These open places not only play an important role in intellectually stimulating the visitors, they also become a community hub for families to visit, relax and interact in a safe and secure environment. The best example for this is the park at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). The MIA Park has become a busy hub for cultural events and community get-togethers.

The MIA Park Bazaar has become very popular that you can see a large number of people visiting the stalls every weekend. Moreover, the park hosts many community events bringing young and old alike to the museum grounds. With these community activities and open spaces, these museums are redefining the role of a museum by making it more accessible and provide an enjoyable experience to a large number of people. By engaging the young in the history of the nation they play a vital role in upholding the cultural value in the days to come.
