Qatar gives top priority to the region’s stability, security and maintain peace. This was evident when the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during a visit to Iran, held meetings with Iranian President H E Dr. Hassan Rouhani, and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H E Ali Khamenei.
Qatar’s relations with Iran have seen great developments and are growing by the day. In joint press statement, H H the Amir lauded and appreciated Iran’s position after the blockade of Qatar and thanked Iran for providing all the facilities to Qatar and the Qatari people by immediately opening its airspace and seaports. The two sides agreed to boost trade and tourism exchange. Terming the meetings as positive and fruitful, H H the Amir said there has always been open channels and discussions with Iran.
Qatar has played significant role in supporting international security and stability through its sponsorship of peace negotiations between conflicting parties in all parts around the world, affirming its essential role in achieving world peace, security and development, through its calm and wise diplomatic approach.
H H the Amir indicated that the visit comes at a sensitive time the region is going through, indicating that it has been agreed with the brothers and with the Iranian President that dialogue is the only solution to the region’s crises, and to reducing escalation.
The Iranian President, meanwhile, praised the ties of neighbourliness and historical friendship between the two countries. H E Hassan Rouhani emphasised the importance of the security of the region, especially the security of waterways in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, stressing that the two countries will cooperate and consult to establish and ensure security in these paths. The two sides also agreed to enhance relations in economic and commercial fields.
Qatar supports lasting stability in the region by preventing any tension or conflict, which confirms its vital and important role in establishing security, advancing progress and supporting development everywhere in the world, especially the Middle East region.
The efforts led by H H the Amir to maintain peace in the region confirm that Qatar is an important partner and that it is keen to solve differences through dialogue. The region needs to build bridges of communication and adopt dialogue as the sole way to resolve crises.
