Hamad International Airport, with every passing year, is becoming the busiest airport in the region thanks to its world-class facilities coupled with innovative technologies being continuously introduced to serve the global passengers. The year 2023 also brought many successes to HIA as the airport won many awards and also accomplished expansion projects.

According to new data, in 2023, the award-winning airport has surpassed all expectations by serving an unprecedented 45,916,104 passengers, reflecting a remarkable 31% increase compared to 2022. Passenger volumes continued to climb in 2023, surpassing even the momentum established during the historic FIFA World Cup.

Since its inception in 2014, the airport which is the “Beating Heart of Qatar,” has consistently demonstrated robust growth, now proudly tallying a cumulative passenger count of close to 303 million and demonstrating a 63% increase in annual passenger volume since the commencement of its operations in 2014. Hamad International Airport has been ranked among the World’s Busiest Airports of 2023 by OAG’s Global Airline Schedules Data.

The airport reported 252,059 aircraft movements over the past year, which is a 22% increase compared to the previous year. Hamad International Airport also witnessed growth in cargo operations amounting to a total of 2,340,711 tons of cargo. The airport has served a total of 52 airlines in 2023.

In December last year, Global Traveler’s twentieth annual GT Tested Reader Survey Awards again crowned Hamad International Airport (HIA) with the distinguished title of ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for an impressive seventh consecutive year. Also, Hamad International Airport (HIA) has emerged as one of the most significant airports in the world to introduce modern technologies. The airport officially launched the ‘Digital Twin’ initiative as part of its smart airport programme in 2022.

In its recent edition, Sky Magazine stated that Qatar’s HIA is one of the fewest airports in the world to use Digital Twin technology as the airport industry is witnessing surging awareness of the vitality of advanced technology to improve travel. Hamad International Airport also ranked among the busiest international airports in 2023. The ranking made by OAG, a leading data platform for the global travel industry, announced the Top 10 Busiest International Airports of 2023.

In June last year, Hamad International Airport (HIA) had won the ‘Most Innovative Airport Initiative Award’ at the Future Travel Experience (FTE) Innovate Awards event. The award recognises the groundbreaking Digital Twin platform that was introduced by HIA and highlights its transformative impact on airport management.
