Making great strides

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has reached Kuala Lumpur and today will hold talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on enhancing the already strong relations between Qatar and Malaysia.

On Friday H H the Amir will honour the winners of H H’s International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award during a ceremony in cooperation with the United Nations. Malaysian Prime Minister will also join in the ceremony to honour the winners of the four awards: Lifetime/Outstanding Achievement, Innovation, Youth Creativity and Engagement and Academic Research and Education.

The awards, presented every year in conjunction with the International Anti-Corruption Day, represent an international recognition for those who contribute to the global campaign against corruption.

The awards will honour individuals and institutions who have dedicated themselves to combating corruption on the basis of transparent and accurate standards. Qatar’s efforts and its distinctive role in improving quality of life, achieving justice and combating corruption and terrorism have drawn praise from across the world.

Qatar has always at the forefront of efforts in promoting peace, providing education for the underprivileged, fighting terrorism, ensuring a healthy and quality life for people in the country, in the region and awider world.

Qatar realises that corruption is one of the most dangerous and negative phenomenon that spreads worldwide and threaten international security and peace and needs concerted efforts to fight this evil. It is the second visit by H H the Amir to the friendly country of Malaysia and it is a clear expression of the depth of the relationship between the two countries. It is a relationship based on the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in internal affairs and the establishment of the best relations between them.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Fahad bin Mohammed Kafood, said that the visit will include an indepth official talks between H H the Amir and the Malaysian Prime Minister which will be of great importance in laying solid foundations for enhancing bilateral relations in the framework of seeking opportunities to develop political coordination and cooperation and economic relations between the two countries.

Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar, Ahmad Fadil bin Shamsuddin, said that his country is once again looking forward to welcoming H H the Amir for the official visit and in conjunction with the award ceremony in Putrajaya. Malaysia is deeply honoured to be chosen as the third venue for the award after Vienna and Geneva in 2016 and 2017, he added. Qatar has taken great strides in making the country corruption-free by ensuring transparency in every level of governance by putting in checks and balances wherever necessary. The country is taking whatever possible steps it can towards making the region and the world free of rampant corruption and the awards are a testimony of Qatar’s efforts in this regard.
