The visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Latin American countries has opened new vistas of partnership and friendship for years to come. The successful and fruitful visits to the Republic of Ecuador, the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Paraguay reflect the commitment of H H the Amir to opening new scopes for the Qatari economy, to serve its 2030 National Vision, and building strong ties with countries from all over the world.
In Peru, H H the Amir discussed with President Martin Vizcarra bilateral relations and ways of boosting them in economy, trade, investment, education and tourism fields. In this light, Qatar and Peru signed a number of agreements which included the cancellation of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports and special passports, as well as the institutional cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, and the cooperation between the Ministries of the Interior of the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between Qatar and Peru date back to 25 years and this cooperation has developed to a wider perspective after the Republic of Peru opened its embassy in Doha in 2011, and Qatar opened its embassy in Lima in 2012.
The visit of H H the Amir to Paraguay is a big step towards enhancing bilateral ties has opened the door for new partnerships in economic and commerce fields. H H the Amir and President of the Republic of Paraguay
Mario Abdo Benitez witnessed the signing of an agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official and private passports, an air services agreement aimed at facilitating and regulating air transport operations between the two countries, and an agreement on cooperation in the cultural field.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of a memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the fields of tourism and business activities, on cooperation in the fields of youth and sports, and on judicial cooperation between the Supreme Judicial Council and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Paraguay.
H H the Amir was decorated with Mariscal Lopez necklace by Mario Abdo Benitez at the Presidential Palace in Asuncion. Qatar and Paraguay began ties in 2002, when the permanent representatives of the two countries to the United Nations in New York signed a joint statement on establishing diplomatic ties. Qatar’s embassy in Asuncion was established in 2012 while Paraguay opened its embassy in Doha two years later.
H H the Amir’s visits to Latin American countries reflect the determination of Qatar to define and shape its international relations according to national interests and vision, which preserves the stability and prosperity of the country as well as the interests of its citizens in the present and future.
