Infrastructure development makes any country great. This goes well with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) as it recently launched a new five-year Corporate Strategy with new vision with a mission. Moving in the right direction, Ashghal set 10 corporate objectives in its new strategy (2018-2022) which include among others enhancement of Ashghal’s health and safety performance, ensuring on time delivery, integrating new assets effectively, optimising and managing cost and improving quality management performance.

The launch of Ashghal’s strategy in line with Qatar’s Second National Development Strategy 2018-2022, regarded as a step forward to make Qatar National Vision 2030 goals into reality. The corporate objectives also include improved sustainability and recycling, increased Qatarisation and development of Ashghal’s staff, increased Qatari involvement in the authority’s supply chain, embedding leading practices across Ashghal and enhancing customer and stakeholder satisfaction.

With the new strategy, Ashghal aims to be more self-reliant, since it has the required potential to manage, operate and maintain its assets efficiently and effectively. It is believed that in the coming five years, Ashghal will try to achieve its new vision through accomplishing its mission of “Continuously enhancing customer satisfaction through leading project and asset management services and solutions”.

Four themes were also developed representing the broad direction that Ashghal will follow. The themes include compliance with health and safety standards, delivering excellence, developing capabilities and focusing on customers and stakeholders.

Ashghal President Eng Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, in a recent review of projects, said the length of the road network in the country has increased by about three times between 2013 and 2018 compared to before 2013. He said that the volume of roadworks carried out over the past five years also increased from 1,700km to 6,000km, while pedestrian trails increased 12 times during the same period. He noted that next year will see the completion of about 95 percent of the road network, which reflects the outstanding performance and work of all state institutions.

It must be mentioned that Ashghal recently completed the Doha Corniche Development project implemented along a distance of 9km from Dafna area to Ras Abu Abboud Bridge. Ashghal started implementing this project in October 2017, within an integrated plan to develop Corniche areas in Doha, Al Khor, Shamal City and Al Wakra Beach, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility. The project included extended expansion and maintenance including flooring, parking lots and toilets. All pedestrian walkways between the parking lots and the main walkway of Doha Corniche are also renovated using new interlock with a variety of designs, shapes and colours.

Ashghal is executing infrastructure development projects efficiently within stipulated time and defined standards. The pace of all project works, quality of projects finished and under way, herald a bright future for Ashghal.
