DOHA: A total of 29 young coaches featured in the QFA-backed Goalkeeper’s Workshop including Qatar national team keeper Qassim Burhan.
The closing ceremony of the workshop - conducted by QFA’s Development Department - saw the presence of Mohammed Al Hashemi, Strategic Planning Advisor, Development Department. Al Hashemi distributed the certificates.
Also present were lecturer Maher Berkdar, and assistants Fawzi Mayer and Bashir Bin Amer.
Al Hashemi addressed the students in which he stressed the importance of the role of a goalkeeping coach in the modern world. He said a goalkeeper remained the best defence for any football side at any level.
“The goalkeeping coach is responsible for developing the leadership abilities of their defenders,” Al Hashemi said.
He named Mohammed Wafa, Yousef Ahmed as Ahmed Trabelsi as some of the top names in goalkeeping in the region.
Al Hashemi confirmed the support of QFA’s Development Department for goalkeeping coaches, saying early mentoring helped young kids pick up the right lessons on way to reaching national squads.
For his part, Maher said that QFA’s Development Department is making a huge effort at all levels to boost the game even from a goalkeeper’s perspective.
He added that QFA is always working to organize workshops and training courses for goalkeepers under the umbrella of the AFC.
He thanked the participants for their cooperation and commitment during the workshop.
“They showed a great deal of hard work to make the most of their participation in the workshop. It was good to see that,” he said.
