Qatari football giants Al Duhail yesterday unveiled their newest recruit, Iraqi star Mohanad Ali, during a press conference held in Doha.
The 19-year-old striker was a regular starter for Iraqi national team since he first represented the country in 2017, and has scored nine goals in 18 appearances.
He was Iraq’s standout performer at this year’s Asian Cup, scoring two group stage goals to secure their path to the knockouts, where they were eventually beaten by Qatar.
International media had earlier reported that giant European clubs in the calibre of Juventus were also interested in securing his services.
Mohanad will join his team-mates who returned following a pre-season training camp in Portimao, Portugal.
Al Duhail will kickoff their season when they meet home rivals Al Sadd in the AFC Champions League on August 6 and 13.
On August 17, the same two teams will clash in the one-off season-launching Sheikh Jassim Cup.
The 2017/18 QNB Stars League champions will take on Qatar SC in their opening match of the League on August 21.
