Doha: Qatar has welcomed the mediation by Turkey between Russia and Ukraine, expressing hope that the negotiations that began in Istanbul would achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement between the two countries.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed Qatar’s call to all parties to exercise restraint, resolve the dispute through dialogue and diplomatic methods, settle international disputes by peaceful means, and avoid escalation.

The Ministry affirmed Qatar’s keenness on the United Nations Charter and the well-established principles of international law, including the obligations under the Charter to settle international disputes by peaceful means and its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states.
