Doha: Bilateral relations between Qatar and Ethiopia have become more promising and are growing to an unprecedented level. With its huge untapped investment potentials and attractive incentives, Ethiopia has become an ideal investment destination for Qatari investors, said Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Qatar H E Samia Zekaria (pictured). She was addressing the opening of the virtual Ethiopian Business Workshop which was organised by the Ethiopian Embassy in Doha in collaboration with its strategic partner KON W.L.L in Doha recently.
The workshop aimed at encouraging Qatari businessmen and women to invest in Ethiopia, import Ethiopian products, and visit various Ethiopian tourist attractions.
During the event, Zekaria reiterated that Qatari investors have shown an increasing interest to invest in Ethiopia, and added that Ethiopia’s high-quality and fresh agricultural products are making their way to the Qatari market.
Zemedeneh Nigatu, Global Chairman of Fairfax Africa Fund, noted that infrastructure, transport, manufacturing, mining and tourism are the vital sectors in which Qataris should invest.
He added that the transport sector is the most worthwhile investment sector with a $74bn investment opportunity in the coming 10 years.
Ethiopia’s proximity to the Middle East region, the country’s fast-growing economy, and the availability of productive workforce make an ideal basis for a strong Ethio-Qatar economic relation, Nigatu added.
Officials and experts from various Ethiopian ministries and agencies also underscored the ample business opportunities in their respective sectors. Mohamed Riad Massani, Chairman of KON Group, and Hissa Khalil Al Suwaidi, Co-founder and Chairperson of KON Group, on their part, shed light on the opportunity the workshop provided in strengthening the business ties between the two countries.
