Qatar’s industrial sector PPI up 100.2% in Nov

Doha: The overall monthly Producer Price Index (PPI) of Qatar’s industrial sector for November 2021 was estimated at 93.9 points, showing an increase of 100.2 percent when compared to the PPI of the corresponding month last year (November 2020). When compared on month-on-month (M-o-M) basis, the PPI of November 2021 showed an increase of 5.0 percent against PPI of the previous month, official data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

The “Mining” sector PPI registered an increase of 3.9 percent when compared with the PPI of October 2021, primarily due to the price increase of “Crude petroleum and natural gas” by 3.9 percent, and “Stone, Sand and Clay” by 0.2 percent. The PPI of November 2021, when compared with its counterpart in previous year (November 2020), there was an increase of 113.5 percent.

In the “Manufacturing” sector index, an increase of 7.3 percent has been recorded in November 2021, when compared with the previous month’s Manufacturing index (October 2021). The prices increase were seen in: “Basic Chemicals” by 13.5 percent, followed by “Refined Petroleum products” by 6.1 percent, “Basic Metals” by 3.7 percent, “Rubber and Plastics products” by 1.1 percent, “Juices” by 0.8 percent, “Grain mill and Other products” by 0.3 percent, and “Cement and Other non-metallic products” by 0.2 percent. However, the decreasing prices were noticed in “Other chemical products and fibers” by 8.6 percent, “Dairy products” and “Beverages” by 0.1 percent each. No change was noticed in “Paper and Paper products”.

When compared with the previous year’s (November 2020) index, “Manufacturing” PPI of November 2021 showed an increase of 78.3 percent. The major groups which explain this price increase were: “Basic chemicals” by 134.1 percent, followed by “Refined Petroleum products” by 77.3 percent, “Basic Metals” by 40.0 percent, “Rubber and Plastics products” by 14.1 percent, “Paper and Paper Products” by 11.4 percent, “Cement and Other non-metallic products” by 3.3 percent, and “Grain mill and Other products” by 1.4 percent. However, prices decreased in “Other chemical products and fibres” by 2.9 percent, “Beverages” by 2.1 percent, “Juices” by 0.5 percent, and “Dairy products” by 0.2 percent.

The PPI of Electricity and Water group showed an increase of 7.4 percent compared to October 2021, resulting from prices rise in “Electricity” by 11.2 percent, and in “Water” by 3.8 percent. When compared the PPI of November 2021, to the PPI of November 2020 year-on-year (Y-o-Y), showed an increase of 14.1 percent, affected by prices rise in “Water” by 18.2 percent, and in “Electricity” by 10.2 percent.
