Jakarta: Qatar won their fifth gold medal in the Asian games on Thursday when the men’s team won the 4x400 relay race in record time.

The team comprised of Abdalelah Haroun, Abdulrahman Samba, Mohammed Nour and Mohammed Abas finished the race in 3:00.56 minutes, which is a new Asian record.

They beat Japan's record of 3:01.70 minutes.

India came in second place, finishing the race in 3:01..85 minutes.

The bronze medal went to the Japanese team, who finished the race in 3:01.94.

Qatar raised its medal tally to 12, five of which are gold and four silver.
