Qatar Chamber (QC) Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani has underscored the importance of the Arab-German Economic Forum in enhancing cooperation between the two sides in order to benefit the Arab and German economies.
The volume of trade exchange between the Arab countries and Germany currently stands at more than €56bn. There are efforts by both sides to increase it in the coming years, he said.
The QC Chairman was speaking during the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry meetings and the 22th Arab-German Economic Forum which was held in Berlin from 25 to 27 June.
Sheikh Khalifa headed the Chamber’s delegation to the conference, which includes the board members Adel Al Mannai, Khaled Khlefeekh al-Hajri, Rashid bin Nasser al-Kaabi, and Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi, and Assistant Director General for Government Relations Ali Busherbak Al Mansouri.
The opening ceremony was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Germany Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.
The forum aims to enhance economic and trade relations between Arab countries and German along with developing cooperation ties among both sides business owners.
Sheikh Khalifa said that the Qatar and Germany are associated with an important level of political and economic cooperation, which reflected positively on the volume of trade between them, which amounted to €1.9bn in 2018. More than 300 German companies are currently operating in Qatar, he added.
He affirmed Qatar Chamber’s interest to strengthen trade cooperation with the German side through mutual visits and building partnerships between Qatari and German companies. He also urged both sides to explore the available investment opportunities in Qatar and Germany in implementing valued enterprises for both economies.
Sheikh Khalifa noted that the Qatari investments in Germany touched €25bn.
