Doha: World No.1 pair Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan yesterday made it to the third round of Premier Padel Ooredoo Qatar Major 2022 following a brilliant comeback win over Benjamin Tison and Zapata Teodoro with scores of 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
At the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, the Spanish duo fought back after narrowly missing the first set win on their first day of the International Padel Federation’s (FIP) brand new official tour.
The French-Spanish pair, Tison and Teodoro failed to pose a similar threat in the remainder of the match as Lebron and Galan sealed the win in one hour and 41 minutes.
Galan was elated with joy after yesterday’s win.
Speaking after the match, the 25-year-old Galan said that the match was not an easy one. He added that it was a nice start to the tournament in Doha.
Galan also wished the losing pair all the best and said that he believes this was a great tournament for them as well.
Also yesterday, qualifiers Mario Ortega and Jose R. Martinez failed to keep up pace with second seeds Francisco Navarro and Martin Navarro as the Spanish-Argentinianj pair sealed a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win.
Meanwhile, Spaniards Alejandro Ruiz and Franco Stupaczuk beat Raul Marcos and Javier Garcia in straight sets with a score line of 6-2, 6-1.
Fourth seeds, Argentina’s Federico Chingotto and Juan Tello blanked Spaniards Aitor Garcia and Diego Gil 6-0 in the first set before withstanding a late attack to see off the latter 7-5 in the second set to advance after and hour-long contest.
Jorge Nieto and Miguel Yanguas beat Javier Valdes and Jose David Valdes 6-4, 7-6.
Fernando Belasteguin/Arturo Coello, Ramiro Oyano/Juan Belluati and Lucas Campagnolo/Javier Garrido also advanced into the third round in the event which carries a record prize-money of $575,000.
