The tournament, held in association with Mitsubishi Motors, was officially launched on Wednesday night in the presence of embassy officials, corporate executives.
The tournament promises to attract a top class amateur field of 200 golfers (100 couples) from throughout the Gulf region competing in a two-day golfing agenda including a complimentary practice round today followed by one tournament round played in Greensomes format over the Championship Course at the exclusive Doha Golf Club (DGC).
The annual event, a highlight on DGC’s schedule, not only allows GCC golfers to play on a world-class, Peter Harradine designed Championship Golf Course, but also provides the opportunity for couples to relax and recuperate in the exquisite surroundings of the InterContinental Doha, only a five minute drive from the Golf Club.
“This year and as part of our ‘responsible business’ strategic vision, we have added a charity auction on the awarding night where the collected funds will go to two important organizations: the first one is ‘IHG Shelter in the storm’ to support the victims of the last Typhoons in the Philippines and Vietnam and the second organisation is ‘Qatar Cancer Society” The Society is one of the leading humanitarian organizations in Qatar which pledges to work towards increasing public awareness about cancer and cancer prevention”, said Andreas Pfister, General Manager, InterContinental Doha.
“InterContinental Doha is committed to the development of sports in Qatar. We have demonstrated this over the years by organising and sponsoring many sporting events and competitions in our host community ‘Doha’”, Pfister added.
