Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, has firmly established itself as one of the main tourist attractions in Doha and continues to remain among the preferred spots for cruise ships calling on Doha Port.

The passengers of TUI Mein Schiff 5, the first cruise ship to arrive in Qatar this cruise season, were delighted to have the state-of-the-art equestrian centre listed among the sightseeing highlights offered in Qatar.

The cruise passengers, who hailed mainly from Europe, were in awe of the exceptional equestrian facilities at Al Shaqab and its magnificent equine occupants, many of which are prize-winning Arabian  horses.

The tour included a visit to Al Shaqab’s state-of-the-art Equine Exercise Centre, where horses enjoy working out in airconditioned training facilities. With treadmills, walkers, swimming pool and even a jacuzzi, the facility is among the best in the world. The horses at Al Shaqab go through their paces under the watchful eyes of trainers, who ensure the workout routine of each horse is tailored to its specific needs.

The passengers were also thrilled to tour the Emiri Stables, and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with pure Arabian horses up close and personal as they are allowed to pet, stroke the horses and even take selfies with them.

Al Shaqab offers tourists and the local public the opportunity to tour its facilities, as part of its vision to promote Qatar’s equine legacy.

The guided tour included visits to premium facilities like the Breeding and Show stable, the Main Arena - the architectural centrepiece at the heart of Al Shaqab ¬ and the Ottoman Stables, one the oldest stables in Qatar.

Special tours such as student tours, media tours, and public tour are organised by Al Shaqab and the tour packages for students also include stable management and pony rides to provide an experiential element in their visit.

Horse lovers are also welcome to walk or cycle around Al Shaqab on weekdays and weekends, to enjoy the unique ambiance.

Further information on guided tours is available at the website.
