Doha: Commercial Bank is leading Qatar’s digital revolution in banking industry from the front. In another Digital First in Qatar, Commercial Bank has announced the launch of its ‘CB Pay for Merchants’, an innovative product which enables customers to pay for goods and services just using their mobile phones.
“It is innovative, safe and relevant as always, particularly in today’s Post COVID-19 world. CB Pay for Merchants is the first-ever digital product in the Qatari market”, the bank announced today in a virtual media roundtable.
The product is a dedicated mobile application that brings business owners, retailers and merchants closer to their customers and makes settling payments an easy, worry-free process. Merchants can initiate, receive, and track payments using the mobile app through two different options.
The first option enables payment using mobile numbers. Available on CB PAY for Merchants, merchants can initiate and receive payments by simply entering the mobile number of the customer, along with the item description. The customer then receives an SMS or Push notification that leads them to open their CB Mobile application, validate the request and proceed with payment.

The second option enables payment using QR codes. Merchants generate a QR Code which will be scanned by the client using their CB Mobile App to complete the payment.
This is particularly useful for services where customers pay for items on receipt of goods. Instead of cash on delivery, customers simply scan the QR code and settle the bill using their mobile.
Commenting on the launch, Commercial Bank’s GCEO, Joseph Abraham said: “Commercial Bank is the leader for digital payments in Qatar and this new product is in response to the needs of merchants and their customers for non-face to face and non-cash alternatives for easy payments.
It also supports the Government’s objectives to promote e-commerce and avoid handling cash. Our CB PAY for Merchants mobile app is a safe, secure and convenient way to make payments remotely and reduces the reliance on cash for better home shopping and delivery.”
Describing the new product, Commercial Bank EGM, Head of Consumer Banking, Amit Sah said: “As we redefine the world of payments, CB PAY for Merchants complements the range of services we already offer and continue to develop. It paves the way for a new seamless, cashless, experience for merchants and customers alike.”
At least 10 merchants have already joined the CB Pay platform. They include different delivery companies, retail outlets, travel agencies and a range of companies that supply high-end products, Amit told The Peninsula in response to a question.
CB PAY for Merchants has a range of services and features that will appeal to merchants and retailers of all sizes. The contactless experience assisting remote purchases is welcomed in today’s post COVID-19 environment, he added.
Merchants and retailers requiring more information can contact their Commercial Bank relationship manager, or call on 4449 0009.
Commercial Bank Chief Operating Officer Leonie Ruth Lethbridge; Executive General Manager, Hussein Al Abdulla; and Head (Cards and Payments) Royah Khajeh also attended the media roundtable.
