GENEVA: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF) and Education Above All Foundation (EAA), has urged the global community to facilitate access to quality education for displaced children and to enforce severe penalties for perpetrators of armed conflict.
H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, participated yesterday in a high-level panel discussion organised by the EAA in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Her Highness urged the global community to facilitate access to quality education for displaced children and to enforce severe penalties for perpetrators of armed conflict.
The session was held at the UN headquarters in Geneva under the title “Quality Education for a Sustainable Future: A Comprehensive Approach for Refugees and Internally Displaced People.”
The session was attended by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi. The discussion touched on the ways to ensure education for refugees and internally displaced persons, in order to build a prosperous future for all.

During the discussion, H H Sheikha Moza spoke about the obstacles facing the education of refugee and displaced children, which prevents them from contributing to the building of their communities. Her Highness added that education must be given priority as it is the tool for the children of the present and future. A global approach needs to be adapted, in order to remove institutional barriers which prevent the recognition and verification of refugee education, Her Highness added.

H H Sheikh Moza said that the current increasing armed conflicts target all that is being built. The world needs to unite in order to put an end to those who are encouraging armed conflict and to impose stricter sanctions on them by the U N.
Before the session, H H Sheikha Moza met with Filippo Grandi, where they discussed the joint efforts between EAA and UNHCR, which includes providing quality education to refugee children, such as establishing projects in 12 countries. The meeting also reviewed the future cooperation aspects.
Both parties then took a tour of an exhibition that highlighted the refugee children’s journey and the challenges they face for education.
