The Qatari-Japanese business forum will kick off in Tokyo tomorrow and is organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME), in cooperation with Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Qatar Chamber and Qatari Businessmen Association.
The forum will be attended by senior officials, businessmen, decision makers and investors from the State of Qatar and Japan, in addition to senior executives of major Japanese companies. The attendees will discuss cooperation aspects and promoting the trade, investment and industry relations between both countries, building on standing partnerships and paving the way for new partnerships between the two countries.
The forum gives the opportunity for communication between business owners and the chance to promote cooperation between the private sectors in both countries, in addition to introducing Japanese businessmen and investors to the advantages of the State of Qatar which makes it an attractive destination for foreign investments in terms of its huge assets, open economy, location and advanced infrastructure, and highlighting the attractive legislative environment for foreign direct investment.
The forum is also an important platform to review sectors at the top of investment priorities, to put promising investment opportunities out to interested parties to open the way for them to participate actively in the investment movement witnessed by the State of Qatar, especially in the food industry, industrial investment, tourism, sports and education sectors.
The forum will include five discussion session that will talk about topics on the evolving legislative framework in the State of Qatar and the business and investment opportunities available to Japanese companies, in addition to the available investment opportunities in projects resulting from increased capacity of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The forum will also highlight the Qatari-Japanese cooperation aspects, the opportunities for joint ventures, investments, main challenges and the infrastructure related to the State of Qatar hosting 2022 FIFA World Cup. In addition, the forum will share success stories of Japanese companies in the State and present successful ventures between both countries.
The organizers hope that the forum will contribute to promoting both countries’ desire in signing new agreements and memoranda of understanding that support the bilateral cooperation and contribute to creating new innovative and creative investment fields.
The State of Qatar and Japan enjoy strong economic and trade relations that have positively reflected on the trade volume which reached nearly $16 billion during 2018, where Japan is Qatar’s first trading partner with 13.8 percent of the country’s total trade.
There are nearly 35 Japanese companies operating in the State of Qatar, 100 percent owned by the Japanese side, while there are 23 companies with Qatari partners working in electrical equipment, petroleum services, water desalination and information technology.
