Indian professional groups hold seminar on ‘Finance for Non-Financial Professionals’

Doha: The Indian Business & Professional Council (IBPC), Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (DCICAI) and Institution of Engineers India Qatar Chapter (IEI-QC) jointly organised a session on “Finance for Non-Financial Professionals” on Sunday, which saw nearly 150 attendees comprising of eminent dignitaries, professionals and chapter members attending from Qatar, India and other countries.

Eng. Ahmed Jassim Al Jolo, former President of the Arab Engineers Federation was the Chief Guest of the event and was introduced by Eng. Abdul Sathar, Chairman of IEI-QC. During the event, Al Jolo emphasised on the need to develop financial acumen and appreciated the role of engineers and finance professionals and their contribution to the Qatari Economy. He congratulated the organisers for conducting the event on a highly relevant topic. 

The Guest of Honour, Jaffer Us Sadik, President of IBPC complimented DCICAI and IEI-QC for the knowledge sharing event and highlighted the role played by both leading organisations in community service and skill development. He also shared the vision and objectives of the IBPC. Sathar also introduced both speakers on the occasion including Eng. Abdulla Al Baker, Vice-President of Lean Construction Institute Qatar who was another Guest of Honour at the event. 

Addressing the participants, CA Gaurav Kakkar, former Chairman of the DCICAI explained finance as the language of business and touched upon the managerial accounting tools. He also explained some of the basic terminologies of finance and deliberated upon the budgeting process and its importance.

CA Nirlep Bhatt, Chairman of the DCICAI explained the importance of cross-functional knowledge sharing and areas which are having interface between engineers and finance professionals. He went on to deliberate on the critical areas by highlighting importance of the cash flow management, procurement procedures, risk management framework and working capital optimisation, with practical approach and relevant examples. 

Earlier, the webinar started with the opening remarks by Dr. Abdul Hameed, Secretary of IEI QC, followed by the welcome remarks by Sathar highlighting the significance of the event. Vice-Chairman of DCICAI CA Ankit Agarwal shared the various initiatives and activities of the DCICAI. While a vote of thanks was proposed by DCICAI’s Secretary CA Vignesh Kalyanaraman, who offered gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, Management Committee, Speakers and attendees.
