The Cabinet approved yesterday the draft law on regulating non-Qatari ownership and use of real estate. The regular meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Under the provisions of the draft law, non-Qataris may own and use real estate, in the areas and in accordance with the conditions, controls and benefits specified by a decision from the Cabinet and based on the suggestion of the commission for regulating non-Qatari ownership and use of real estate.
The law provisions are to be applicable on land space, buildings and residential units, and detachment units in residential complexes.
Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr Al Hassan Al Mohannadi said that at the start of the meeting the Cabinet welcomed the UN’s General Assembly resolution issued on December 21, 2017 which demanded that all states comply with Security Council resolutions regarding the Holy City of Jerusalem, and not recognise any actions or measures contrary to those resolutions and for all states to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in it.
The Cabinet hoped the global community would translate the resolution to practical steps that achieves just and sustainable peace based on the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative, which will lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Cabinet reviewed and took the necessary measures with regards to the annual report of the National Committee for Traffic Safety and its recommendations.
Established as part of the Ministry of Interior, the committee is specialised in setting policies and strategies in the traffic field and its development. It also studies the traffic problems and suggests appropriate solutions.
The committee also coordinates and cooperates with different entities that affects its work to regulate traffic, it also proposes the development of legislation on traffic and road and transport engineering, in compliance with international standards and the requirements of the continuous development of roads and transportation.
The report referred to the preparation of the National Strategy for Traffic Safety 2013/2022 and the executive plan of the strategy and its revision.
It also included establishing a national office for traffic safety to follow up, evaluate and support stakeholders, in addition to the committee’s membership in the UN Road Safety Collaboration.
The Cabinet approved its draft decision on amending the organisation of some of the administrative units at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the designation of its competences.
The Cabinet reviewed and took the necessary measures regarding the memorandum submitted by H E the Minister of Finance on the ministry’s recommendation to allow listed companies in the Qatar Financial Center to participate in the tenders offered in the country.
The Cabinet reviewed and took the necessary measures regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ report on the Qatar’s standing committee in support of Al Quds.
The Cabinet also reviewed and took the necessary measures regarding the report of the H E the Minister of Economy and Commerce on the 33rd Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial
Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) held in November in Istanbul.
