The research and partnership forum 2017, organised by Qatar University over three days, with the participation of experts and researchers from various institutions and universities in the country, started yesterday.
The annually organised forum includes presentations on the research capabilities of Qatar University and what the university can offer to achieve the projects of governmental and private institutions according to research axes related to energy and environment, information and communications technology, health sciences and social and human sciences.
Qatar University President Dr. Hassan Al Derham said that the forum, which brings together researchers and partners under one umbrella at the Qatar University, addresses the needs and difficulties facing the community on more than one level, referring to the University’s research policies and practices and its contribution to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Dr. Al Derham stressed in his speech during the opening of the forum that the Qatar University since its establishment, has strengthened its close association with the issues of society and ensured that the educational and teaching process is in line with creative and original scientific research. He pointed out that Qatar University has established research centres and programs in various colleges that provide theoretical information, develop students’ skills and practical abilities as well as enable researchers to meet the social and economic needs of society.
The Qatar University president pointed out that the research process of the university culminated in the establishment of the research complex, which includes specialized research centres, equipped with all the requirements of modern research. He said that the university had made great achievements in the implementation of a roadmap for scientific research that gave priority to the environment, resource sustainability, social change, identity, health, population, and information technology.
He said that a large number of the university students are studying in the field of social and human sciences, which has received the attention it deserves where the original, diverse and integrated research revolves around modernity, globalization and national identity, Islam and contemporary issues, education and national capacity building.
Dr. Al Derham highlighted the development of environmental and social research, as well as the promotion of joint research in cooperation with local and international parties, in addition to the development of graduate studies, training programs and preparation of cadres capable of working in the fields of public and private, academic, administrative, professional and others.
He noted that the University has a wealthy local and international expertise, a rich library structure, and specialized working groups in fields such as history, archeology, heritage, oral history, literature and languages, immigration, asylum and identity, modernity and originality, anthropology, sociology, education and banking sciences, and other subjects that are in line with the major and subsidiary research priorities noted in the university’s plans.
Dr. Al Derham referred to other centers in the university such as the center for the development of educational studies, the center for social and economic survey research and other research centers in the field of Islamic studies, economic, legal, community studies, sustainable development, entrepreneurship and others.
He stressed that the university will witness new projects in the future, including the development of graduate studies in this vital field of thought and human development. Qatar University president urged the participants to discuss the current situation and to present a scientific vision for the future, taking into account the strategic objectives and needs of the state in creative ways and devising solutions that suit our local needs.
